ACT real estate industry honours 40-year veteran, Matthew Herbert

A 40-year veteran of the local real estate industry, Matthew Herbert from L J Hooker Gungahlin, was honoured at the REIACT Awards of Excellence last night, Saturday 4 December.

Mr Herbert was presented with the President’s Award for his contribution to real estate in Canberra over the past four decades.

“With a career commencing in 1981 starting in the industry as property manager in the family business, Matthew has been a pillar of professionalism and innovation throughout his career,” said REIACT president, Hannah Gill.

“His peers and 120-strong team speak about him as kind, genuine and motivated, driven by integrity and success for not just himself, but those around him,” Ms Gill said.

In a year that has seen the ACT property market boom and continue to do so, the awards brought the ACT’s real estate sector together to celebrate its achievements and recognise both agency and individual excellence.

“This year, our Awards for Excellence Gala had to be postponed due to the lockdown, so the Institute is incredibly grateful to have been able to celebrate the achievements of our members with our Awards for Excellence presentations,” Ms Gill said.

This was the 27th year of the Institute’s Awards for Excellence and 19 of the winners will now go on to represent the ACT at the National Awards in Melbourne in April 2022.

“I would like to congratulate all our winners and also commend all the finalists. This year’s submissions were interrupted by the lockdown, and to have so many finalists is a testament to their standard of professionalism and how important these Awards are to our nominees.”

This year’s winners included: HomeGround Real Estate – Small Residential Agency of the Year; Bianca Way, home.by holly – the Achievement Award; Rebecca Pritzler, Lexmerca Lawyers – Conveyancer of the Year; The Property Collective – Residential Property Management Team of the Year; Steve Burke, Burgess Rawson Canberra – Leasing Consultant of the Year; Independent Property Group – Large Residential Agency of the Year; Sentia Real Estate – Community Service Award; Canberra Property Partners – Innovation Award; and Jason Roses of Verv Property, winning the coveted Residential Salesperson of the Year.

For the third year in a row, Guy Randell of Burgess Rawson Canberra was named Commercial Salesperson of the Year while Alec Brown from Ray White Canberra was named Auctioneer of the Year.

The REIACT Hall of Fame inducted Our Team Mark, Aaron and Tania, Independent Inner North and City for Residential Sales Team of the Year 2018, 2019 and 2020.
