ACT man in his 70s dies with COVID, 495 new cases

A man in his 70s has become the latest fatality from COVID-19 in the ACT as 495 new cases were recorded.

The man is the 30th person to die with COVID-19 in Canberra since the start of the pandemic from 39,165 total cases.

Of the new cases, 264 of them were from PCR tests while there were 231 positive cases from rapid antigen tests.

It’s the highest number of new cases in Canberra in almost a week.

The number of COVID-19 patients being treated in hospital has declined to 55.

There is one patient being treated in intensive care, who is also on a ventilator.

Vaccination levels continued to rise, with nearly three-quarters of five to 11-year-olds having received their first dose.

The first dose rate in the cohort now stands at 74.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, 56.3 per cent of residents 16 and over have received their booster shot.
