ACT daily record 58 new COVID-19 cases as Christmas approaches

The ACT has recorded its highest number of COVID-19 cases during the pandemic with 58 new infections, as testing numbers remain high as Canberrans prepare for holiday travel.

Active COVID-19 cases in the ACT have jumped to 174 while the total number of infections for the outbreak is now 2,241.

Despite the rise in cases, there are still just three people in hospital with the virus. None are in intensive care or requiring ventilation.

Testing numbers in Canberra remain high with 3,759 negative tests in the past 24 hours. Wait times for PCR tests across Canberra are also long, with over three hours at each site.

The ACT Government reintroduced a mask mandate for all indoor spaces in the Territory yesterday.

There are also several new COVID exposure sites in the ACT, including Assembly in Braddon, a screening of Spiderman: No Way Home at Hoyts Belconnen and The Capital Mens Club in Fyshwick.

The news comes as NSW recorded a new high of 3,763 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths.

Victoria recorded 1503 new cases and six more deaths.
