ACT COVID update: 12 new cases, total to 94 with one hospitalised

In today’s update it was announced the ACT recorded 12 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the local total active case number to 94.

This comes after ACT Health identified a duplicate in their numbers today, hence the total case figure only jumping by 11 on yesterday’s number.

11 of the new cases are linked to existing cases and exposure sites, with the final case currently being interviewed.

Out of 94 total cases, six remain under investigation including the index case.

One case related to the current outbreak has been hospitalised after being confirmed as a positive case at 1am this morning.

At this point they are in a stable condition, not requiring ventilation or any level of intensive support.

6804 tests were conducted yesterday, with Chief Minister Andrew Barr saying testing queues were getting shorter across Canberra.

“If there are people who were waiting for the lines to reduce and the times to be shorter to come forward for testing, today is a good day for that,” he said.

Both the Gold Creek and Erindale testing sites are now open to the public.

The total number of exposure sites across Canberra has jumped to over 260, while 20,372 people across Canberra are currently in quarantine.

ACT Policing and Access Canberra are reporting “incredibly high” levels of compliance after undertaking more than 150 hotel and home checks, 85 business checks, and 750 traffic stops yesterday.

Just 12 turnarounds and 12 cautions were issued yesterday.

Meanwhile, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian today announced the Sydney lockdown would be extended to the end of September.

It came as NSW recorded 644 new local cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday, with two of those acquired in the ACT now isolating in southern NSW.
