Police arrest man, seize explosives at Forrest hotel

ACT Policing arrested a 26-year-old man following an operation at a hotel in Forrest overnight and located commercial grade explosives, ammunition and a home-made firearm in his room.

About 10pm yesterday, Thursday 15 July, police received information that a man wanted in connection to bail and other offences was located at a hotel in Forrest.

Police attended the hotel and shortly after located a 26-year-old man and a woman staying in a room at the hotel.

A number of items including commercial grade explosives, ammunition and a home-made firearm were located requiring specialist officers to attend to make them safe.

The man was subsequently arrested and will face court today in relation to a significant number of previous offences.

Enquiries are continuing in relation to items found in the man’s hotel room and also a stolen vehicle located in the parking area of the hotel. Forensic examination of these items is occurring and further charges are expected.
