20 COVID-19 cases in Queanbeyan, 39 in Southern NSW

The Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) has recorded 39 COVID-19 cases, with over half of them in the Queanbeyan Palerang LGA.

There is now one person in hospital with the virus and 39 people under active care.

There are 218 active COVID cases in the SNSWLHD with the total number of infections up to 847 since the start of the outbreak in June.

Of the 20 Queanbeyan COVID-19 cases, there are nine in Googong, three in Jerrabomberra, two each in Queanbeyan, Crestwood and Carwoola with one in Bungendore.

Goulburn Mulwaree recorded six new cases, four are in Goulburn with one each in Tarago and Wayo.

There are six new cases in the Eurobodalla LGA with two in Moruya and Narooma and one each in Woodlands and Batehaven.

There are four infections in the Snowy Monaro LGA with two in Jindabyne and one each in Bombala and Thredbo.

Yass Valley recorded one infection in Murrumbateman.

Upper Lachlan has one new case in Wheeo.

The news comes as NSW recorded a massive spike in infections with 11,201 COVID-19 total cases.

The SNSWLHD has separated the way care of active cases is delivered into four ways:

1. Hospitalisation – sick patients are admitted into hospital for treatment.

2. Virtual care – patients who need extra support are cared for in their own homes under the Southern NSW LHD virtual care program. This program provides daily online consultations and monitoring of temperature, blood pressure and oxygen levels. Patients who deteriorate are quickly transferred to hospital for inpatient care.

3. GP care – low risk patients who need some medical supervision.

4. Self managed – people under 65 years of age, who are asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, not pregnant or suffering from any chronic conditions.

Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate themselves from other people for 10 days after a positive test result.

Given that most people in the district are now vaccinated, the majority of COVID-19 cases do not need to be cared for under the virtual care program.
