A 30-year-old Queensland man more than five times over the legal limit is among 11 drivers summonsed to court for driving offences detected by ACT Policing‘s high visibility enforcement activities across the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

From Friday 10 June to Monday 13 June, Road Policing and other officers conducted activities across the ACT to remind drivers of the need to drive safely.  

During the weekend: 

• 1174 random breath tests for alcohol impairment were conducted 
• 37 traffic infringement notices were issued 
• 26 cautions were issued 
• 38 random drug tests were conducted 
  
  As a result of this activity, 11 drivers will be summonsed to court, including six for drink driving and two for drug driving.  

Yesterday, Rural Patrol members conducted a random breath testing operation near Tharwa, and a 30-year-old man was detected with a reading of 0.279 – more than five times the legal 0.05 limit. The Queensland man was issued an immediate suspension notice and will appear in court at a later date.  

The ACT road toll stands at 11 for 2022 and ACT Police continues to urge all drivers to slow down, drive to the conditions, and consider their and other road users’ safety.
